building (study)

March 29th 2024, oil

finally back to painting.

this one is a colours and shapes study.

this time I mixed the colours beforehand - versus directly on palette.

I like the duality of the pigment as intense, yet dull.

I think I need more practice with painting precise lines.

I would like to do more of this kind of work in the future.

field (fog)

March 8th 2024, oil

just a quick study to close out the day.

I like the way the fog came out.

the grass too.

it's a bit rough but it was a good exercise.

I am so excited about this one!

this is one of my cats.

she is very sweet and a troublemaker.

I really like how it came out in general.

especially the eyes and the colour of her fur.

proportions are a bit weird.

better than usual though.

clouds (study)

March 6th 2024, oil

this one is just a colour and texture study.

I like how it came out.

especially the gold-like reflections.

I hate it; it's my favourite.

I genuinely think this is the best thing I've done.

I'm not sure others would agree.

I'm not sure I care.

the more I stare at it, the more is wrong with it.

I love it.

EAT.

once again I find myself painting something more experimental in the latter half of the day.

I think this sort of work is probably closer to my inner world than the 'prettier' art.

I really like the contrast in this one, both in colour and texture - it's jarring, which is what I wanted.

I don't mind this style.

I'm quite proud of this one.

I really like how the background and the texture of the glass came out.

could use a few fixes as usual - the glass smudging, the light's reflection and some brushstrokes in general.

overall I feel like I'm making decent progress.

field (dusk)

March 1st 2024, oil

I was a bit scared to upload this one.

still am.

especially after the last one.

but I actually really like it.

I enjoy experimenting with different styles, with colours and contrast.

I am still learning.

I also don't like wasting too much paint.

trees (study)

March 1st 2024, oil

this is probably my favourite work so far.

it reminds me of my favourite painter.

I was afraid the sky's colour might be too dull but it turned out great.

could use a few fixes in hindsight but overall I am quite proud of it.

no name for it yet.
